Yugo Nagashima is the top qualifier for the 5th round of the OneTen series presented by Infinity. The Serpent driver wrapped up the top qualifying spot with his second round TQ in Q2 but only took 2nd in the 3rd and final 6 minute qualifier. The 3rd round of qualifying went to his Serpent team mate Rocket Zhang who as a result will now line up in 2nd on the grid for this afternoon’s triple 4-minute mains. JJ Wang will line up in 3rd for Xray just ahead of Yokomo driver Motor King with Gary Huang completing the top 5. Asked about his qualifying, Yugo said that in the 2nd qualifier he made a small mistake and hit the curb which allowed JJ to lead but once he regained his rhythm he could go to the top of the times again. Happy with the setup of his car in Q2, for Q3 he tried something completely different but it wasn’t as good and will revert to the previous setup for the finals.
Taking the final round and starting from 2nd for the finals, Rocket Zhang was pleased with his final run. With JJ making a mistake this allowed Rocket to lead but with his team mate able to close, Rocket said ‘Yugo let me go, I think it is safer for him’, referring to the fact that the Japanese driver knew that if Rocket took a win he would start ahead of JJ. Not planning to change anything for his finals his aim is to try and maintain his position.
Speaking to JJ Wang following the conclusion of qualifying he said that he didn’t realise that Rocket could take 2nd away from him until he had pulled up before the end. Trying something different for Q3, he said it didn’t work out and he didn’t want to risk breaking anything and chose to stop early, but had he known that Yugo would slow for his team mate he would have stayed out and pushed. Going back to his Q2 setup the US driver said he will ‘make some moves in the final’.
In the Sweep Stock class Heng would take the final round of qualifying but with Simon Wang already wrapping up qualifying having taken the first two rounds, it is the Awesomatix driver that starts up front. Heng will set off from 2nd with his Yokomo with the Xray of Masaaki Kiyoyi starting just behind in 3rd. AI Lou and Da Chen complete the top 5.
